Jio has launched a beta 5G trial service in four cities, implying that users will have access to unlimited 5G network data at 1Gbps speeds. It will be expanded over the next couple of years to cover the entire county.
Recently, Jio launched the 5G Welcome Offer for Jio users, which is available by invitation. These customers will avail themselves of unlimited 5G data at speeds up to 1 Gbps. Reliance Jio hit the headlines to say that it is launching its “True 5G” beta service starting in Mumbai, Delhi, Varanasi, and Kolkata. This actual announcement has come after its rival Airtel launched 5G services in eight cities.
The telco said that it gives the welcome offer and enables only the invited customers to trial the 5G service and get the user-experience feedback. Notably, when the 4G network was introduced, Jio offered similar unlimited plans.
Will Jio 5G be Available only for these Selected Cities?
5G trial service is not only available to the privileged in some areas or the largest cities. “It will be available to every citizen, every business, and every home across India,” stated the statement by Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited.
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said on Saturday that the Indian telecom industry will ensure that the country will have the cheapest rates and highest quality as compared to anyone else in the world.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telecom minister, said that the government is making efforts to launch the 5G network in around 200 cities in the next six months. The minister said that while the target of 200 cities will be completed, the pace of the target is such that around 600 cities will be covered in the next six months.
Do We have to Pay an Extra Charge for Jio 5G?
The service of Beta trial for other cities will be announced soonly. Jio users can continue to take advantage of this beta-testing opportunity until a city’s network coverage is sufficiently complete to provide excellent coverage and a positive user experience. Jio also announced that it is working with all handset brands to enable their 5G handsets to work constantly with Jio’s true 5G service. It is also working with that because customers can get the most comprehensive range of 5G devices.
While the telco hasn’t announced 5G tariffs officially, it said that these services will remain reasonable and affordable in the market. It means that Jio said the invited customers only have to pay for their existing 4G plan data service and will not impose the additional charge for 5G data service during the trial. Jio users can avail themselves of that opportunity to be automatically upgraded to the Jio True 5G service without requiring to change their existing 5G handset or Jio SIM.
How did Jio Beat Airtel?
Airtel has not decided yet to charge a premium for its 5G network service due to the slow base of 5G handsets on its network. The telco is of the view that premium 5G service pricing may not help push ARPU, but overall tariffs need to go up after a while as present levels are volatile.
However, Airtel also plans to expand its 5G network and provide the service to cover the top-tier cities by December this year and cover the entire country by March 2024.
Jio has chosen the standalone architecture (SA) mode for its 5G network to operate and dubbed its service “True 5G.” Bharti Airtel, on the contrary, is using non-standalone architecture (NSA) mode for its 5G network services.
Why did Jio Plan for 5G?
Jio aims to offer 5G network service to every taluka, every town, and every tehsil by December 2023.
5G network technology is expected to provide ten times better downloading speed than 4G network data and up to three times greater efficiency of the spectrum.
Prime Minister “Narendra Modi” has given a clarion call for the quick roll-out of 5G across India to realize the full potential of Digital India. In response, “Akash Chairman” stated that Jio has the most ambitious and fastest 5G rollout plan for a country.
Explaining the reason for launching its 5G services on the day of the celebration, the company said, “Dussehra marks the victory over the odds caused by legacy technologies like 2G, with the knowledge and wisdom that Jio True 5G will truly enable.” Reliance Jio, which is now set to give a tough fight to its competitors, is also gearing up to lure around 5 million Indian enterprises with its 5G services.
