Motorola recently launched the Moto G04s, an entry-level smartphone aimed at users on a tight budget. While it doesn’t boast high-end specs, the G04s packs some interesting features for the price point. Let’s delve into what this new phone offers.

Display and Design:

The Moto G04s features a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution (720 x 1612 pixels). While not the sharpest, the 90Hz refresh rate ensures smoother scrolling and animations compared to traditional 60Hz displays. Thankfully, Motorola has equipped the screen with Gorilla Glass 3 for added scratch resistance.

The design is relatively simple, with a water-repellent construction that should shield against minor splashes. The phone comes in four color options: Concord Black, Sea Green, Satin Blue, and Sunrise Orange.

The Moto G04s takes a significant leap over its sibling, the Moto G04, in the camera department. It boasts a single 50MP primary sensor on the rear, accompanied by an LED flash. While a single rear camera might seem limiting, the megapixel count suggests it could capture decent photos in good lighting conditions. The front houses a 5MP selfie camera for basic video calls and selfies. Both cameras can record Full HD videos at up to 30fps.

Performance and Software:

The Moto G04s is powered by the Unisoc T606 processor, a budget-oriented chipset. Paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.2 storage, the phone should handle everyday tasks like browsing the web, using social media, and streaming videos without much trouble. Motorola includes expandable storage via a microSD card slot for those who need more space. An interesting feature is the 8GB of virtual RAM, which utilizes storage space to improve multitasking performance.

The phone runs the latest Android 14 out of the box with Motorola’s MyUX on top. MyUX is known for being a clean and bloatware-free interface, offering a near-stock Android experience.

The Moto G04s packs a generous 5,000mAh battery, which is a welcome feature in a budget phone. This should provide all-day battery life for most users, with moderate usage potentially stretching it to two days. However, the included charger is only 10W, so topping up the battery can take some time.
